These creamy sweet cheese tarts can be found all over Shanghai.
Where to find them?
I just had to write a quick blog post about these, you will find them everywhere in Shanghai from the malls to the street food vendors. Like many things in China there seems to be lots of different brands making them, but this one is the one most commonly found in the big malls so is (probably) the original.
Wait did you say sweet cheese?
They are just delicious so I highly recommend them if you are ever in Shanghai. They are made by piping a very soft almost foamy cream cheese into the pastry cases and then they are baked. The best way to describe them would be like a baked cheesecake.
They are absolutely best served hot in my opinion, but they come with instructions on how to serve them hot (very soft), cold (almost like a cheesecake now) or even frozen.
