Flying through the mountains along side the clouds. This was an amazing sight to be seen, as the plane is flying so low you are almost passing through the peaks of the mountains with the clouds.
Where is it?
This is the trip back from Milford Sound via a chartered plane and it is amazing. The journey only lasts about half an hour but the views along the way are spectacular. I would highly recommend this if you have the means (it is quite expensive).
What do you get to see?
The flight takes off from a very small airport or runway in Milford, you will be boarding the place with just a couple of other people. You will be sitting along side the pilot as the plane only takes a few people. The plane climbs quickly along side the mountains until it just passes the peaks and then you will get to see all of the mountains as they pass just below you.
Its quite hard to express hoe impressive it is, but the pictures here will give you some idea. These are all just taken from the plane as it passes through and around the peaks of the mountains on the way back to queenstown.
Wait is that a frozen lake?
One of the amazing things you can only see from the air is a frozen lake nestled in a crater amongst the snow covered peaks in the mountains. Our pilot took us right down close so we could see this spectacular sight.
As we start to leave the mountains the views continue as now we can see the farmland at the base of the mountains. It really is an incredible picturesque part of New Zealand and it becomes clear why so many films are now filmed in New Zealand.
